12 Day Hidden Sierra Tour

For experienced touring riders that want to get off the normal tourist trail and see all the north coast has to offer.

Day 1

Start: 9am
Where: Santa Marta - Buritaca
Riding hours: 
Highlights Include:

  • Your first taste of offroad riding through the jungle of Paso del Mango.
  • Lunch and a tour of Caoba Biological Reserve.
  • All-you-can-drink river tubing in Buritaca.
  • Spending the night at El Rio hostel. Colombia's best in 2018.

Day 2

Riding hours: 6
Where: Buritaca - Riohacha
Highlights Include:

  • Riding the Quebrada del Sol loop. A goat trail that leads from sea level to 1000m above sea level. Bring a camera.
  • The untouched fishing village of Dibulla.
  • Sunset over the Boardwalk in Riohacha
  • Enjoying the hospitality at Pura Guajira hostel. Colombia's best in 2017.

Day 3

Riding hours: 5-6
Where: Riohacha - Cabo de la Vela
Highlights Include:

  • Riding tour of the Indigenous salt flats in Manaure.
  • Winding trails and desert flats through the desert.
  • Sunset over the Caribbean Sea.
  • Fresh seafood and cheap beers for dinner.

Day 4

Riding hours: 5
Where: Cabo de la Vela - Punta Gallinas
Highlights Include:

  • Team up with a local indigenous guide and carve a path across the desert to Punta Gallinas.
  • Exploring the surrounding desert landscape by bike.
  • Epic sand dunes and crystal blue beaches.
  • Optional accommodation in a Wayuu hammock. Sleeping outside here is magic, and very comfortable.

Day 5

Riding hours: 7
Where: Punta Gallinas - Riohacha
Highlights Include:

  • Sunrise at the northernmost point of South America.
  • Traditional Guajiro lunch in Uribia, the capital of La Guajira state. There's goat on the menu for those who dare.
  • A swim and a drink after a long days riding at Mayapo Beach, just north of Riohacha.

Day 6

Riding hours: 5
Where: Riohacha - San Juan del Cesar
Highlights Include:

  • Swimming at the natural hot springs in Hatonuevo.
  • Lunch in a local eatery at Distracción.
  • Swimming and lunch at crystal clear waterholes of Manantial De Cañaverales.
  • Getting fancy for a night at Hotel Casa Murillo, San Juan del Cesar.

Day 7

Riding hours: 5
Where: San Juan del Cesar - Valledupar
Highlights Include:

  • Riding the beautiful new paved road up to Pueblo Bello.
  • Putting your offroad skills to the test on the road to Nabusimake.
  • Visiting an Arhuaco Indigenous village.
  • Sunset swimming at Rio Guatapuri.

Day 8

Riding hours: 7
Where: Valledupar - Cienega
Highlights Include:

  • Opening up your throttle and putting in some early miles on the brand new Bosconia-Valledupar highway.
  • Visiting the natural hot springs nearby Cienega.
  • Sunset on the Malecon, away from the Santa Marta crowd.

Day 9

Riding hours: 5
Where: Cienega - Tayrona
Highlights Include:

  • A late start to the day after a long ride the day before.
  • Seeing the surrounding stilt houses in the neighbourhoods around Cienega Grande.
  • A swim and cliff jumping at Quebrada Valencia waterfall.
  • Sunset from the mountains overlooking Tayrona National park at Journey Hostel.

Day 10

Riding hours: 0-4 (optional rest day)
Where: Tayrona - Tayrona
Highlights Include:

  • An optional visit to Tayrona park. No bike required.
  • A short hike to a secret beach, with potential for monkey sightings in the morning or evening.
  • Ride the back country coastal roads to secret waterfalls and swimming holes.
  • Night 2 at Journey Hostel. Get a good night's sleep before a big riding day the next.

Day 11

Riding hours: 5
Where: Tayrona - Minca
Highlights Include:

  • Put your offroad skills to the test on the backroads to Minca.
  • The jungle valley and ocean below at Los Pinos viewpoint
  • La Victoria coffee plantation
  • Spending the night 1000m up in the jungle with Casas Viejas in Minca.

Day 12

Riding hours: 6
Where: Minca- Santa Marta
Highlights Include:

  • Night-riding for sunrise at Cerro Kennedy and a breathtaking view over the Sierra Nevada.
  • Marinka and Pozo Azul waterfalls
  • Smoked meats at Camarita's smokehouse. Vegetarian options available as well.

Finish: 3pm
